Christian Music Genres

Today I was asked to help a friend find some Christian bands that their family may relate to. At first I thought this is great, I can't wait to start the list!  But as I started filling out this list I kept thinking of all the different styles of music there are.  My preference is rock, but that includes so many different subcategories it could get ridiculous.  There's southern rock, classic rock, hard rock, heavy metal, soft rock, eighties rock, and on and on and on, well you get the picture.  Some of these are pretty easy to put a label on with certain bands, but some bands have so many different styles it's hard to put them under one label. One of my favorite Christian rock bands, Third Day, could fit under quite a few different descriptions.  Most of the time I would say they fall under southern rock, but they also do really well with praise and worship songs, and a few ot their songs border on pop.  Kutless is also another great Christian rock band, but it's very hard to put a label on them.  They've had some songs that border on death metal style and some songs that can instantly become praise and worship classics.  They've even done classic worship songs with their own twist, just try Strong Tower and you'll see what I mean!  The most important part though, no matter what their style, there are so many Christian musicians out there now that no matter what your preference for listening you can find music with a message that you can enjoy!  There's musician's out there for every genre!  I think one time I was looking around on the internet and found a site that allowed you to type in your favorite styles of music or artists and then would suggest Christian artists that performed that same style of music.  All I can say is no matter what your preference, there is a band or musician out there that will meet your likes!
